Hi everyone! I'm Oreo, and I want to share some of my pictures with you.
But first, a little bit about me. I was born on April 28, 2002. I lived at a really nice lady's house in Colorado Springs until July 2, when my mommy found me and brought me home.
Then in December of 2003, mommy met a great guy named Larry, and pretty soon he was hanging around a lot. I liked him right away! Now he's my daddy. Mommy and I moved to his house in Lakewood in June of 2004, right after mommy and daddy got married.
I love our new home! It's near a really cool park where mommy and daddy take me on walks. Last night, we went for a walk after they got home from work, and WOW! I chased about 8 rabbits! But there are sure more than rabbits in the park. There are also geese, ducks, birds, horses (with people riding on them), and of course, other dogs (on leashes most of the time). I love to go there as often as I can!
In the summer, we love to go camping. That's fun too! I get to sleep in a tent snuggled between mommy's and daddy's sleeping bags. There are all kinds of squirrels and birds to chase! And we get to hike a lot! Sometimes I even get to run off my leash! WHOOPIEEEEEE! Here is a picture of daddy and me at one of our campsites last year. It was in Golden Gate Canyon State Park here in Colorado. We stayed there over Labor Day weekend, and it was a bit chilly! But daddy built a nice fire to keep us warm. I can't wait to go camping again when the weather gets warm enough!
Geocaching is one of my favorite things to do! We get to go exploring all over the place! Mommy and daddy take a little computer called a GPS receiver with us when we go. They say it reads information from satellites to tell us where we are and where we're going. The GPSr helps us find little containers with fun stuff in them. We usually take one thing out (one time I got a ball!) and put one thing in, and mommy or daddy signs a logbook in the "cache." I don't really care much about the cache part. All I want to do is explore! Last time we went geocaching, I got to run off leash in a place where dinosaurs once lived! We even saw real dinosaur fossils! But I was more interested in the rabbits and squirrels.
In this picture, daddy is holding me at the summit of Mount Sunflower, the highest point in Kansas. This was a "Virtual Cache" that we found with the GPSr.
I even have a cache that I take care of right in the best rabbit chasing part of the park I told you about! To find out more about geocaching and try to find my cache, visit www.geocaching.com.
Another fun fun thing we get to do with the GPSr is hunt for benchmarks. A benchmark is a special marker placed by the National Geodetic Survey. Surveyors use these markers in their work. There is a database of benchmarks on geocaching.com, and we like to find these markers just for the fun of it. Of course, I'm into the exploring! Here are mommy and I at the very first benchmark we ever found, near where mommy works. See it on the ground next to me? The orange marker next to mommy helps us find it more easily. I'll bet if you look around next time you're in your car, you'll see some of these orange markers around your area! They're all over the place!
